Moving house is highly exciting, but it is at the same time plenty of hassle and can be very stressful. Keep things moving smoothly with these eight tips. There are plenty of ways to get better organised and make sure your move is as stress-free as possible.
- Make a Box List
Print out a numbered list on the computer with space beside each number. As you pack a box, label it on all four sides with a number (or use printed stickers) and write down on the sheet what is in it. Be specific as it will help you find things when you are slowly unpacking.
- Get Plenty of Boxes
You will need many, many more boxes than you think. If you have plenty of boxes in your home before you start packing it will make things much easier. Movers like http://www.advanced-removals.co.uk may supply you with boxes or you can purchase your own. Or get them free from the supermarket or your local corner store. You’ll also need newspaper, packing tape, markers, and bubble wrap.
- Use Coloured Stickers
Decide on a colour for each room of your new house. Create a colour key attached to your box list and then stick a coloured sticker on each side of each box you pack, to show easily where it will go in the new place.
- Keep Items Together
It’s a real pain to go searching for the remote control when you have installed the TV, so make things easier by packing things together. Tape small parts to the back of appliances, and keep extension cords with the appliances they serve.
- Pack in Advance
You don’t need to wait until you have a moving date to start packing. Many things can be packed in advance that you know you won’t use until after the move. In the winter, pack your summer clothes and vice versa. Pack up heavy sports goods and put away non-essential items from the kitchen.
- Leave out Cleaning Products
If you need to clean before you leave or before you move in, make sure that the cleaning supplies are easily accessible in a separate box. If possible, clean before moving day so you don’t have to worry about it when you are busy actually moving.
- Use Luggage and Bags
Don’t pack luggage – use it to store clothes, towels, shoes, and other essentials.
- Keep Your Valuables Safe
Don’t pack anything valuable in the moving van. Keep all important papers, items, valuables and other sentimental objects with you when you move in the car. Make sure you label the boxes as normal so they don’t get lost in the new place.
